Euro 3.8 million to boost youth employment in Djibouti

The Republic of Djibouti has taken a new step forward in its socio-economic development strategy. A financing agreement worth 3.8 million euros, or around 763 million Djibouti francs, was signed yesterday at an official ceremony presided over by the Minister for the Economy and Finance, responsible for Industry, Mr Ilyas Moussa Dawaleh.

This package, jointly financed by the European Union and the French Agency for Development (AFD), is intended to support the EU-Youth Djibouti (UEJD) project.

This ambitious program aims to improve the employability of young people, particularly women, and to strengthen their integration into the labour market. The event brought together key development partners, including Denisa-Elena Ionete, Ambassador of the European Union, Dana Purcarescu, Ambassador of France, Éric de Guerpel, Director of AFD in Djibouti, Omar Abdi Saïd, Minister of Labour, and Youssouf Moussa Dawaleh, President of the Djibouti Chamber of Commerce. The project has two main thrusts: improving vocational training tailored to market needs, and strengthening dialogue between public institutions and the private sector. The aim is to respond to one of the country’s most pressing challenges: youth unemployment, which is hampering their economic and social integration.
‘This initiative is part of a long-term partnership between Djibouti, the European Union and AFD to give young people the means to build their future’, declared Mr Ilyas Moussa Dawaleh after the signing ceremony.

By focusing on skills training and strengthening cooperation between employment actors, this program aims to create an environment conducive to the emergence of competent and active young people, while supporting businesses in gaining access to trained and operational human resources.
